The Great Guitar Build-off
Mike Davies
I haven't been making things out of wood for very long, but I'm having a blast doing it. I'm in no way qualified to make a guitar, so I thought, "why not make my first one as part of an international luthiery challenge?" because apparently I'm bad at making decisions.
I'm a full-time newspaper journalist who has taken up woodworking in his garage, and thought while I was doing it, why not bring people along on the journey by starting a YouTube channel? I'm slowly gaining a nice little following over there and developing a friendly community of supportive people who like having fun making things.
Because this is going to be my first guitar, I'm going to go relatively easy on myself. It will be a solid-body electric guitar with a standard scale length (probably 24.75") and without a lot of frills, but we'll see how things go when I get into it. I do have a tendency to over-complicate things.
