Hi my name is Mike. In normal times I'm an airline pilot who dabbles in woodcraft, but unfortunately these are not normal times and so I'm now only half a pilot who has time on his hands so last year i built my first proper acoustic guitar. This year I'm hoping to build more and maybe even sell but for the competition I'm going to use some slabs of mahogany which my neighbours pulled out from around their fireplace and were going to throw out to make the body. The neck will be flame maple and i will be building everything from the templates and jigs to the smallest details from scratch. My plan is to keep the design fairly simple and classic, a tele shape but with my own take on some of the details. My challenge will be getting a high end finish on a shoe string budget. Wherever I can I'll use reclaimed timber and I'll look to save expense by diving into my scrap wood pile!
I have a 3 month old YouTube Channel called Captain of my Shed, still very small, all about wood working and making stringed instruments although this will be the first build on the channel.
