The Great Guitar Build-off
Joe Sharpe
I'm 19 years old and a full time self employed guitar tech in Leighton Buzzard, I've had a passion for modding guitars since I was young, and even now when working on guitars everyday, the idea of building one from scratch is still as exciting as it was when I first dreamt of it. Around 3 years ago I started restoring vintage instruments, mainly as a hobby and a sideproject. But once I realised I could turn a profit I started to believe it could make me an income. It started with Teisco's, Guyatone's, Sakai's, Matsumoku's etc. And I wanted to bring that element of 60's Japanese guitars, that has been so important in my learning, into this project. Whether it's from direct design nods and inspirations, or just building the guitar in the spirit of those instrument, I wanted something that said more about myself than just building a Les Paul, or a tele would. With a tight budget, limited time, tools and materials, I give you, what I'm calling, the Conway!
