The Great Guitar Build-off
Gabriele Reti
I'm a hobbyist from Germany who came to build guitars about three years ago. It started it as an experiment with reclaimed wood lying around in my workshop. I have built about 30 acoustics since then and a few electrics, mostly for the joy of building and as presents for friends. I do use my guitars for recording. Last year I started a project for charity (I'm a grammar school teacher and we support street kids in India, sending them to boarding school), building guitars from solid mahogany that had hung on our school's aula for 50 years. Those were up for sale to finance our India project. For the build in this competition I'm planning on building another upcycling guitar in which I will only use reclaimed woods, except for the fretboard. Since someone on Youtube commenting on a repair video of an Epiphone Les Paul I uploaded asked me to join the competition, I wasn't sure I should since I'd rather make acoustics. He claimed to have checked with you that acoustics are OK, too, and so here I am.
