The Great Guitar Build-off
Andre Silva
I keep daydreaming about making guitars. Having to wear a black suit for work and working 10 hours a day I don't get to do much of it. Now I am furloughed, so the budget is tight, but I'm gonna do this anyway to keep me from going crazy. Should have done last years too. I am making this in my studio flat in London which is the most inappropriate place to do it. The dust and noise will be unbearable for both myself and my neighbours. I want to make a light weight guitar so it will be hollow. I'm using plain maple as the only wood used for it. Maybe roasted maple as fretboard inlays. I'm using 2 Kent Armstrong pickups that I already have due to a Kent Armstrong order mistake (I ordered chrome covers and they sent open). A Wilkinson wraparound bridge that I bought intended for another project that never was. A set of Hipshot locking tuners that I found for £20 on ebay. It is my own design, one that I've had for a long time when I thought of making a guitar to complement Paul McCartney's bass, but without looking like a violin/cello,etc.. I am using only a router, dremel, jigsaw and an orbital sander. I will try to minimise the use of the last two because of the dust. I'm doing this in the same room I'm sleeping and eating. This guitar is going to be called 'Itch' its a scratch build, get it. lol
